I have marveled over the last few decades at the increased anxiety around phone calls--for me and for the younger folks. I'm not sure my nephews understand the phone at all. They certainly don't seem to get that it's a way to actually converse over distance--they never quite seem to know what to do with it.

I never used to be phone phobic, and I'm still not sure I am, but I definitely avoid it a lot more than I used to, unless I'm calling a friend or relative. I keep wondering how that happened, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm not at all sure it's a good thing.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your phone friend. That is hard.

I love how effortlessly you tell your story and how easy it is to visualize. The pirate bugs creeped me out the most! And I have been in those kinds of traffic jams (only in California during the holidays). HORRIBLE!!!! I hope your Thanksgiving ended up better than it started.

Thanks so much for the kind words. 🧡 The pirate bug thing was pretty harrowing. Apparently they are attracted to light color clothing. Who knew?? The rest of the visit was nice and we made it back home in record time, so all in all, not so bad. Hope you had a restful holiday with some good eats.

There are so many things to comment on this week! I'm sorry your phone pal passed away and I'm glad she had you to talk to and jog her memory! What a cool organization idea. The phone thing and kids is totally a thing. I admit I sometimes face text because I am too lazy to talk or want to avoid all the weird pauses and the emotional push it takes to make a phone call.... but there's nothing like it! Hearing and feeling the vibration of someone's voice connecting with you is healing, whether we know it or are aware of it. Lastly, I appreciate you wrapping up the bug issue because I was wondering... my house with little kids had lice in it recently and I still have the sensation those fuckers are squatting on my scalp.

I totally understand how a phone call can feel jarring in today's world, but I do still really love gabbing away with my friends on the phone. It's a throwback for sure and reminds me of my younger years when the phone was my lifeline. Re: the bugs. OMG, Stephanie. The lice thing sounds so stressful. I probably would've had to move out of my house if it'd been me. Both Jared and I kept scratching at ourselves during our interminable car rides, convinced the car was infested, but it wasn't. I think only a few pirate bugs hopped in before we left. At least I haven't seen any or felt any since.

I was determined to set aside time tonight to read your post, and so glad I did. I’m sorry for the loss of your phone friend - I’m sure you brightened her days. And I’m glad you and Jared made it through the gauntlet. :)

Also, thanks for the gift suggestions since I am finding myself a bit flummoxed this year! 😶
