Aww. Thanks, Stephanie! 🩷So glad you enjoyed it. Tom Cruise could totally be a robot or alien. Please do a fun holiday card with your cute fam and pets! The woman who takes our photo is Danielle from Cat Party Portraits and she’s the best. This is her insta: https://instagram.com/catpartypetportraits?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I haven't heard the word "deltiology" since my grandfather died in 2014. He was a dedicated collector of old postcards and thus an amateur deltiologist. The things that man could tell you about how antique cards were designed, printed, sent, and exchanged could fill books.
I also want to know just where one obtains strawberry powder, because I have the feeling the folks at Wegmans are gonna look at me like I sprouted six heads if I ask them... 🤣
😂That’s a very good question, Nancy! I googled strawberry powder and it’s looks like we have to mail order it. *Sigh* It’s available via some natural food vendors + Amazon and Target sells freeze-dried strawberry slices, which I imagine offer the same benefits.
I have a soft spot for Tom Cruise, despite his funny little ways. I think I would have passed out being in such close proximity - a bit like going too close to the sun. He's such a good actor and I can't help liking the fact that by and large he just oozes positivity - yes, even the jumping on the sofa thing, whilst cringeworthy, was disarmingly uninhibited. Also I love coconut so that adds to the appeal. The cake sounds divine. Wasn't Brooke Shields sweet about it?
Fascinated to learn the word "grawlix". "Snoopy Swear Words"! Yes!
Oh those post cards of yours. They are just fabulous. I am the proud possessor of a later version than the one in this article and I treasure it. It's on display in my home and never fails to raise a smile.
I eat strawberry jam so I am expecting my writing to improve exponentially.
🤣TC is singular no doubt and there’s certainly a reason why he can still dominate the box office. Brook Shields is beyond lovely and positive and a real inspiration to me. I think she may have made it back on the cake list, but not sure. The bakery where Tom gets the cake sells mini ones for a much more reasonable price. When I come visit you some day, I’ll bring you one. Thanks for the sweet note, Jules! You always brighten my day.
Fascinating post. Bowie used to do something similar, a friend told me who worked with him once. But perhaps more genuinely interested in those he met!
Thanks for reading and sharing a fun fact about Bowie, Mike! I love Bowie and didn't know he sent gifts to all his people, but I'm not surprised. He was such a caring soul and, to your point, I'm sure his gifts were much more heartfelt.
My friend was working on a TV commercial with him in the 80s plus one other A lister in a studio in Holland. It came to a lunch break and the ‘stars’ went off supposedly to have lunch in their rooms while the crew went to the canteen. My friend was in the queue and turned round to see David Bowie queued right behind him. ‘But don’t you have lunch served in your dressing room?’ my friend asked. ‘No I always have it written in my contract that I eat with the crew. That way everyone has the best food and everyone is on top form’. My friend and he took their trays to a table, and had a very interesting conversation about Buddhism over a very fine lunch.
Aww. Thanks, Clare! I'm very curious about the cake too and hoping someone rich will send me one. :) l will update your new address too. Sending hugs to you and Grace. xo
I think this is one of my favorite In with the old newsletters! The Tom cruise story is so good. I could imagine him hypnotizing everyone with his charm and handshake. He’s a robot, no?! Also the postcard, I’m totally reaching out to your friend and doing one. I’m never one to send out holiday cards even though my sister bugs me about why I don’t every year and this is the first time I’ve been inspired haha!
I know what you mean. I'm not a big fan of coconut or coconut-flavoring, but my mom asked me to bake her coconut layer cake a few years ago and I was surprised by how good it tasted. It's basically a vanilla cake with shredded coconut on top of the frosting between the layers. I'm guessing this $126 cake has a similar taste, but I'll never find out. :)

Also, if I ever invent a word, I want it to sound like "grawlix."

And your grandpa sounds like my kind of person! Were you lucky enough to inherit any vintage postcards?
I have one or two that he gave me on different occasions. I'm not sure what happened to most of them. My mom collected with him, and I'm sure there are still quite a few in the family as a result, but it's possible some were sold after he died. I'll have to ask. If you're curious, his local paper did a story on him back in 2007, just about a month before my grandmother died, and you can read it here: https://archive.naplesnews.com/community/palm-sized-treasures-don-norbeck-shares-his-collection-of-german-postcards-ep-403328096-332004662.html/
Aww. Love this so much! Such a sweet way to preserve his memory. Thank you for sharing.
He was such a sweet man, and I’m so grateful they did this piece on him. It was a treat to read it again yesterday. 😁

I will hold you to that: the visit and the cake! 😘
It’s going to happen!!

😍What a gentleman! Love this.
I love the holiday card! I've always wanted to do one like that but my cat would likely unalive me in my sleep.
If you do a card with your cat, Sarah, I insist you send me one! :)
I ABSOLUTELY will do that! :)

A coconut cake? That's a very specific type of taste. Most people do not like shredded coconut.
Always a treat to read your post on a Monday morning! Next task, try to find strawberry powder.
Thanks, Heather!❤️🍓 I'm going to order some strawberry powder too. We're all going to be so smart!
As always, so much fun to read your post! I am so curious about that cake! Thank you! Keep writing! Clare

Hilary, thank you! I'm blushing. 😊
Thank YOU for the excellent tips. I love your Stack!
