I love this so much. It's a fantastic song, and made all the more fantastic by the story behind it. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Aww, thanks! You’re welcome--it was too good a story not to pass on!

I loved this. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story! It speaks to possibility. That even the schemes we think might be “harebrained” could somehow find their ways into our version of Johnny Mercer’s hands. It is still possible for the generosity of other folks/kindness of strangers to work in our favor.

Thanks for the comment, Dekera! Yes to possibility! That’s how I felt too when I heard the story. Anything is possible if we just put our dreams down on paper and get them out into the world. Wishing you great success with your creative pursuits.

Very nice article and definitely inspiring . I don’t think housewife is disrespectful at all though. That’s the beauty of the story. That’s why she identified with sinatras “teenage sweetheart and wife of 20 years”… that’s exactly what brought on her outrage. It’s the warmth and heart of the story and I also doubt Sadie would’ve had issue with it.

Anyone can modify a Wikipedia entry. You should go back to the page and update it with the correct info. That would be great and sweet.

I loved reading this. What an interesting and inspirational story..not to mention, so fun! You really have a flair for taking a fun fact (or two) and running with it. I wish my dad was around to share this with, he would have gotten a huge kick out of it. He loved those old fashioned crooners.

Jenn! Lovely to hear from you. I've missed your posts so much. Thanks for reading and the kind words. Hope you're well and that I'll get to read more of your writing soon. Glad that this post made you think of your pops. That's how I felt when I saw the movie, Chef with Jon Favreau. The whole time I kept thinking, my dad would've LOVED this movie. It's nice to have moments that help us remember and appreciate our loved ones that have passed on. ❤️

Great article! I doubt this could happen now, with the kind of security celebrities have to have, as well as the lawyers who protect them from being sued for plagiarism. But bravo to Sadie!

And I also have a mental folder for "Where All My Million Dollar Ideas Go To Die." It's bursting at the seams, but there are not enough hours in the day, so my brilliant ideas will have to go unrealized. :D

Thanks, Laurie! Appreciate you taking time to read and comment. 🩵You’re right. All the celebs/gate keepers are lawyered up, but it could happen in a different way. It’s like going to the SCBWI conference with only 10 pages of a manuscript written and getting a book deal. That happened to our friend, Elizabeth Ross. 😀Pursue your million dollar ideas! One might hit. I believe in you! ❤️
