Is the point of your posts to make one happy?! Because they sure as hell make me happy and I'm here for it every time! Cheers to your quiet alternatives. Also I need to know your old teacher and I love her art! And I loved your first 2 paragraphs, so descriptive. Another one I use is Poshmark for good finds in clothing that have history.
Aww. I love that my posts make you happy. ❤️It’s definitely my hope that my musings will bring a bit of cheer. Thanks for the kind words. Means a lot coming from you. I will try to get in touch with Osna and tell her she has new fans. I doubt she’ll remember me because she taught for 30 years and I wasn’t one of the standout artists. 😁
We've all benefited, Hilary, from you developing your own personal sense of style and brightening our lives with your color choices. Who needs the mean girls anyway - except for when Tina Fey writes a funny movie about them?
This was an excellent essay! Your struggles as a young child mirror my own, especially when I went to an upscale private school for one year as a scholarship kid. Class is something no one wants to talk about, but it "quietly" dictates the way our society functions. I like your California mindset when it comes to fun / loud clothing. It seems like "preppy" styles are back for the New England / Northeast style hustlers. And to that I say nope, no thanks, not interested.
Thanks, Autumn! Appreciate you sharing and the commiseration. ❤️ So sorry you had to deal with mean girls too. The “quiet luxury” trend definitely stirred up all these old feelings about exclusivity and how damaging it can be to the folks not admitted into the club. I remember New England’s preppy ways oh so well from my 3rd and final high school. But that just means more great finds for you.
"The dead Rabbi's Jacket" made me laugh so hard my husband thought I couldn't breathe. I wish the bizzillionaires would just be quiet, but they can dress however they want.
Love the post. Thanks Hilary for always bring in the light and dressing like the rock star you are!
You have an incredible way of describing the people you've known! It makes me want to meet every single one, or just pay even more attention to everyone around me - which is lovely!
It seems that labels, not labels, labels, not labels is an ongoing cycle... Style over trends I think! I loved the insight into your style. :)
Aww. Thank you, Jess. Appreciate the kind words. I find my fellow humans so fascinating, their style and quirks and what makes someone truly unique. It is weird that many of my teachers are a blur, but the ones that took time to connect with me are forever ingrained in my memory.
Thanks, M! I didn't even realize it was Earth Day, lol. Oops. Good thing I have a simpatico friend like you to keep me abreast of important milestones. You're the greatest! OG upcyclers and friends forevah. 😍
My head is spinning with the ideas on upping my style and minimizing this horrible waste of resources all around us. Thanks Hilary for this multifaceted thoughtful post.

Aww. Thanks for reading and the kind words, V! I’m sure you could picture Ma talking about the dead rabbi’s coat. 🤣

I understand that completely, giving people your time is so special!
Insightful. Entertaining. Meaningful. Thanks!
Thanks, T2! Appreciate you. xoxo
Thank you for this, Hilary! The perfect thing to read on Earth Day weekend and a fun reminder that we’ve been upcycling with style for decades 💕

Thanks, Edward! Appreciate you taking time to read my ramblings. I say wear whatever you like! A fun outfit really lifts the mood.
Aww. Thanks, Doug! The movie is great, the real-life mean girls not so much. 😀
