I have long thought that women don't do themselves any favours trying to do the impossible by staying young forever. As you say, each to their own, and if people want cosmetic surgery it's their choice, but until we understand that we are as important age 81 as we were age 21, we are doomed to have nothing but negative feelings about the aging process. The trick - and it is not easy - is to reject shallow rules that society foists on us and get on with our lives, relishing every day. I have found there to be a lot of advantages to getting older, and we don't tend to think of them as much as the disadvantages.

I had to look up farro - a new one on me. Recently I have started eating Greek yoghurt, nuts and fruit so I'm delighted to see that it will help with muscle mass. Delicious.

I'm off to investigate the other substacks you recommended - they look great 😃

Another treat - thank you Hilary!

Thanks for the like and reading this old post, Jules! You're so right, there's a lot of good that comes with aging, and honestly, we are all lucky to still be around. I wish people would realize that so many folks wanted to be here and just didn't make it. It's up to us to make the most of the time we have left and not beat ourselves up for a few well-earned wrinkles. I cook up a batch of farro and sprinkle it on my salads. It's easy to cook and tasty. Greek yoghurt is great too. I also eat tons of nuts and fruits like the squirrels. ;)

Honestly, H2 your posts are absolute gold - you really strike the perfect balance with them and I so look forward to them, so thank you.

I agree 100% about aging. When I hit 30 I thought it was terrible, then I pulled myself together and realised that every year is a gift. As you say, not everyone gets that gift.

Yes the wrinkles are a trial, but I find that if I stand up very straight and keep looking upwards they're not so bad! 😆

I feel the same way about your posts, Jules! So happy to have found you here. Hear, hear! to standing up very straight and looking forward. My trick is to wear bright red lipstick and big glasses to distract from the wrinkles and age spots. :)

LOVE the drawing BTW. I still struggle with not hating on myself as I age. But I’m getting better. Hanging with younger people has actually helped me minimize the self deprecating comments about being older. Thanks for the reminders!

Thanks, Christina! I get it. The struggle is real. But, in the paraphrased immortal words of James Brown, we older women have got soul and we're super bad. :) So glad being around younger folks has made you kinder to yourself. That warms my heart!

OMG, there we are! I love that drawing. (I’m especially impressed that you managed to get some of my geeky t-shirt design in there!) I’m so glad we got to meet up and have our little mystery tour of Culver City! 😁
